Opus 4.8 disovers Zcash Flaw
A security researcher discovered a critical vulnerability in Zcash’s Orchard shielded transaction pool that could have allowed attackers to create unlimited counterfeit ZEC. The flaw, found with the help of Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 AI model, was reported on May 29 and patched by June 1. Following the disclosure, ZEC fell 31% in 24 hours.Although the bug had existed since 2022 and was confirmed to be exploitable in testing, the Zcash team believes real-world exploitation is unlikely. Shielded Labs said there is no evidence of counterfeit coins being created and is exploring upgrades that would allow users to verify the integrity of the Zcash supply.
