Binance suffered the largest crypto hack on record on October 29, with attackers stealing approximately $6.34 billion in digital assets. Hackers reportedly compromised employees through malicious software and a fraudulent job interview, before exploiting Binance’s internal AI tool to gain access to additional engineers’ devices and ultimately its wallet-signing infrastructure, enabling unauthorized transactions across multiple blockchains.The FBI and blockchain intelligence firms, including Chainalysis, TRM Labs, and Elliptic, attributed the attack to North Korean hackers. Investigators identified sophisticated preparation and laundering techniques, including converting stablecoins into ETH to avoid freezes. However, Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, denied the allegations, calling the FBI’s claims politically motivated.Binance has frozen or intercepted approximately $2.85 billion in stolen assets and replenished 98% of affected funds.
