SEC proposes custody framework
On Thursday the SEC proposed a new custody framework for registered investment advisers and regulated funds that hold crypto. Current custody rules were written long before crypto existed, and in many cases no qualified custodian is available for certain crypto assets. The proposal aims to give advisers and funds a clear, compliant way to hold them, and it also updates related rules on audits and broker-dealer custody services for regulated funds.Two changes stand out. State trust companies could serve as custodians, as long as the adviser checks that the company is authorized
