Massive Bitget hack
Bitget says a Sept. 24 breach led to about $351.6 million in unauthorized transfers from parts of its hot and warm wallet infrastructure, while cold wallets remained secure. CEO Gracy Chen said preliminary evidence points to North Korean involvement, citing VPN-linked IP addresses and attack patterns associated with previous North Korean operations, though the exact intrusion method is still under investigation. Bitget says the attacker compromised a backend wallet system and manipulated transfer information to trigger the exchange’s signing process, rather than stealing private keys.Withdrawals have been temporarily suspended while Bitget repairs and strengthens the affected systems, but deposits and trading remain operational. The exchange says customer balances are intact and the full loss is covered by its $464+ million User Protection Fund.
